As said before, death came in many forms in Game of Thrones, and so often that fans were pretty much desensitised to it. When Olly, a child, was hung for betraying the Night's Watch, most fans applauded. However, there was one death that took things a little too far.

In Stannis' quest for the Iron Throne, he relied heavily on the words and the dark magic of Melisandre. She stole Gendry's blood as a sacrifice to R'hllor to take Joffrey, Robb, and Balon Greyjoy out of the game, however, when things went south very quickly for him, desperate measures were called for.

Stannis and his army were caught between the Wall and Winterfell, and they were stopped by the weather before they could reach Ramsay Bolton. His soldiers were freezing, his horses were dying, and so he once more turned to the Red Woman, who demanded an even greater sacrifice.

Ever obedient to Melisandre and her Lord of Light, Stannis ordered his own daughter burned alive at the stake in order to win favour with R'hllor. It is one of the most brutal scenes in Game of Thrones history, made worse by Stannis' indifference, the fact that there were no characters in the series as innocent as Shireen, and that it made absolutely no difference to his cause anyway. Many fans thought this was where the show crossed a line.
