Every time a new Targaryen is born, the gods toss a coin in the air and the world holds its breath to see how it lands. Daenerys' father was known as the Mad King, so Dany's descent herself shouldn't have been all that surprising.

However, when it comes to good storytelling, it is not just about the destination. The journey is just as important, and this couldn't have been more rushed. Once the White Walkers were defeated, there could have been an entire season based around battling Cersei, followed by another season detailing Daenerys' descent.

Everything kicking off in this episode simply didn't allow enough time to truly delve into why Dany was doing what she was doing. This should have been stretched across multiple episodes to truly develop the story, but once again, the pace and Benioff and Weiss' rush to get the series finished was on full show here.

Aside from how dirty they did Daenerys, it is the death of Cersei Lannister that got fans as angry as they had ever been. She could have been killed by Tyrion, by Arya, by Jaime, by Daenerys, by Sansa, and there would have and should have been a spectacular ending to her story. Instead, she was crushed by some rubble. Cersei Lannister was one of the shows greatest ever characters, and she deserved much better than the lazy ending she was given.
