10 Game Of Thrones Scenes WAY More Brutal In The Books

5. Tyrion's Encounter With Mandon Moore

The Red Wedding Game Of Thrones
HBO

Towards the end of the second season viewers were treated to the first large scale battle in Thrones. During the Battle of Blackwater Tyrion proved his worth to House Lannister by leading the defence of the city against the forces of Stannis Baratheon. During the battle, the dwarf was accosted by one of Cersei's lackeys and received a brutal slash across the face before Pod stepped in to save the day.

Firstly, although it was impressive, what we saw in the show didn't do the book battle justice. Events occur on a much larger scale, notably, Stannis' forces construct a makeshift bridge out of boats, which they then use to cross the Blackwater.

Tyrion leads his men across the make-shift bridge, and what follows is a bloody and vicious fight. Eventually the bridge begins to break apart, but before Tyrion can escape he's attacked by Mandon Moore, and thrown into the river. Pod manages to kill the member of the Kingsgaurd and save Tyrion, but when he awakes his nose has been cut off. All that's left is a mangled mound of flesh and a gapping hole, leaving Tyrion disfigured for the remainder of the novels.

Martin really gets a kick out of mutilating his characters.
