10 Game Of Thrones Heroes You Didn't Realise Were Villains

10. Tyrion Lannister

A villain you say? The noblest of the Lannister family; the man who loved Shae, tried to protect Sansa and save the city from Stannis Baratheon? A man who, since his father's return to Kings' Landing and the recent events of season four, has become ever more the victim? Tyrion may not be a villain on the same level as Cersei or Joffrey, but he is still part of a bad lot. All his clever scheming is to ensure his own success and save a corrupt and awful regime; the wealth and power of the Lannisters and his monstrous nephew on the phone. Tyrion certainly knows the blackness at the heart of his family but he has done nothing to fight against it. He served as Hand of the king because he enjoyed the power. He stayed on as part of Tywin's counsel and asked for Casterly Rock because he wanted that esteem. Had he truly been a noble figure, he would have worked to undo the machinations of Joffrey and his father Tywin from the inside, a double agent if you will. But ultimately he chose to support the enemy. Could he have done anything to stop it? Certainly. By doing nothing in the service of evil, Tyrion has played his part in it.
