10 Game Of Thrones Heroes You Didn't Realise Were Villains

9. Olenna Redwyne, The Queen Of Thorns

The grandmother of twice-queen Margaery may not have held back her verbal punches since she rode into Kings' Landing in season three, but she has always balanced the lines between love for her family and wisdom. The true head of the Tyrell family certainly knew what lay behind the facade that was King Joffrey and his Lannister family but she was never so bold as to meddle in their scheming... ...Or so we thought. In what looks to be her swang-song episode, Olenna overtly discussed how she had Joffrey poisoned to protect her grandmother from her future husband. It was certainly a shock to Margaery - as much as she understood Joffrey's vile temperament, she tried to make the best of a bad situation, chipping away at her future husband bit by bit to get him to trust her. Olenna stepped over the line to get done what was necessary. She knew what Joffrey would do to Margery and what his power would ultimately do to her family and the entire kingdom. He had to be stopped; she might be considered a hero by some but murder in such a blatant and shocking manner, particularly when someone else picked up the fall, makes her a villain as much as it does a hero.
