10 Game Of Thrones Heroes You Didn't Realise Were Villains
4. Robb Stark
The late King of the North may have had just reasons for rebelling against the Iron Throne and fighting the War of Five Kings but his methods were not always the most noble. Did he deserve to see his wife and unborn child stabbed to death in front of him followed by a knife in the gut? Definitely not. But was he the pillar of light people believed him to be? No. Frankly, while his motivations were strong, Robb Stark just wasn't that good a king. He let his passions rule him and didn't listen to counsel of his mother and northern nobles. Despite his victories in late season one / early season two, he ultimately demonstrated that he wasn't up to the task through a number of major missteps, some of which actually cast him as the villain, rather than the hero. The extreme response aside, Robb did break his agreement with Walder Frey by marrying Talisa instead of one of Walder's daughters. He imprisoned his mother for freeing Jaime, even though it was the olive branch to save his sisters Arya and Sansa. Worst of all, he executed his closest ally Robert Karstark for getting revenge over the loss of his son. Wasn't Robb's initial motivation fuelled by revenge for his murder father Ned Stark? Ultimately Robb lost his troops and with them the Riverlands and the North. He didn't save anyone; he just doomed them all to the likes of Roose Bolton, Walder Frey and Tywin Lannister.
