10 Gaping Plot Holes In The Game Of Thrones Finale

Drogon may not witness Jon Snow killing Daenerys Targaryen, but he arrives to see his ‘mother’ absolutely 100% dead, with a dagger in her heart and one other standing there. At this point, if you want to portray a dragon acting out, there’s an obvious target for the second stage of grief standing right there in front of it.

So why does Drogon ignore Jon to torch the Iron Throne instead, melting the iconic furniture to slag? Jon’s been accepted by Daenerys’ dragons already, so it’s certainly possible that Drogon doesn’t make the connection between Jon and the dagger and doesn’t blame Jon for her death.

But the destruction of the Iron Throne is a step too far. Bizarrely, writers/directors/showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss seem to have decided that an overgrown gecko with halitosis is smart enough to make some form of griefstricken statement about this specific institution of power and the corrupting effect it’s had on so many people.

Even if you throw credibility to the four winds and decide to make this remarkable leap of logic with them… Drogon’s never seen the thing before. He has no way of knowing what this giant spiky art installation represents, or even that the ruined hall about them used to be the throne room.

If Benioff and Weiss wanted to make this point, there are less idiotic ways of doing so than of having a glorified Zippo act as their stand-in.
