7. Why Keep A Promise To An Invading Army?

Now let’s look at the same situation from the other side. Jon and Tyrion are prisoners based on having betrayed Daenerys Targaryen. Daenerys, despite her pedigree, was technically a wannabe usurper and an invader who had brought two foreign armies and some dragons to Westeros, killed the legitimate Queen and burned the capital to the ground.

Aside from the embittered Yara Greyjoy, the assembled lords of Westeros should want to give Jon a medal for saving their whole society. It’s made clear that they were forced to agree to punishing Jon because the Unsullied and Dothraki held what was left of King’s Landing. However, shortly afterwards Grey Worm and all of his troops sailed off to Naarth to bury Missandei, never to return.

There’s no need for them to keep a promise made under duress to a conquering army who are no longer around to enforce. Of course, Jon might still want to go back beyond the Wall again anyway, but that’s up to him, the lugnut.
