10 Geek Secrets The Big Bang Theory Made Famous

9. Cosplay

The boys from The Big Bang Theory absolutely love to dress up, and not just at Halloween €“ although an episode from the very first season, €˜The Middle-Earth Paradigm€™, sees them invited to Penny€™s Halloween party, where they reveal their geek credentials by dressing up as Frodo, Robin Hood, Thor and The Doppler Effect €“ Leonard, Howard, Raj and Sheldon, respectively (although originally they all wanted to be The Flash). But dressing up for conventions and meetings is their thing: the practice of cosplay, where one dresses up as one€™s favourite characters from films, television, comics or video games, especially if the source is related to Japanese manga or anime. Cosplay is engaged in for a variety of reasons, ranging from simple fancy dress fun, to a more serious performance and role play aspect (and, inevitably, a fetishised sexual exploration of that). While the boys seem to just love dressing up as their favourite characters, thank god, they€™ll certainly do it at the drop of a hat. Season four€™s €˜The Justice League Recombination€™ has them persuading Penny and her boyfriend to dress up as the members of DC€™s Justice League with them to win a fancy dress competition, while season six€™s €˜The Bakersfield Expedition€™ sees them journeying to a local comics convention dressed as characters from Star Trek: The Next Generation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsDGbhpwJ94
