10 Glee Covers As Good As The Originals

1. 'Rumour Has It/Someone Like You' - Adele, 'Mash Off'

The 300th performance in the show's history, this mash-up of two of British songstress Adele's tunes from her global phenomenon is a stunning, perfect example of when Glee does things absolutely perfectly by throwing its own genius into the mix. While the songs themselves would be gorgeous renditions on their own, combining them gives the lead singers, Naya Rivera and Amber Riley, a unique opportunity to showcase their emotional range and vocal talents in songs just built to be listened to all the time. It also succeeds in giving the melancholic-yet-hopeful album closer 'Someone Like You' a brief moment of being a true 'tears on the dancefloor' song, a mix of misery and euphoria so rarely and truly achieved in modern music. Rivera's voice is aural caramel, utterly gorgeous and displaying the conflicted emotions her character is feeling over her recent outing as a lesbian, while Riley is in her element here, bringing the sass and attitude that the Troubletones simply personify through her powerful and glowing voice, proving that the pair are simply amazing when singing together. To say this mashup is a brilliant take on the Adele tunes isn't overestimating their success - Adele herself even tweeted the video and reportedly loved the rendition an immense amount. The fact that Riley and Rivera are now only part-time cast members on the show is a shame as it decreases the chance that these two might reunite on screen and give us another cover that more than matches its equal.
