10 Glee Covers As Good As The Originals

9. 'The Safety Dance' - Men Without Hats, 'Dream On'

A bit of a random and controversial choice for a good cover, it's more due to the performance in the show and to Kevin McHale's fantastic boyband vocals in this one-hit wonder of a tune. Coming in from 'Dream On', directed by fan-favourite Joss Whedon, the song takes place in a dream sequence where McHale's paraplegic Artie dances for love interest Tina. The song may actually have some advantages that triumph the campy, fun original - McHale sounds astonishingly great and at home with the song as a fun, irreverent track that actually has some underlying darkness to it in the fact that Artie will probably never dance and this song could be the soundtrack to his potentially unfulfilled dream. McHale's rendition of 'Stronger' almost took this position, but I feel 'Safety Dance' has more merits as a fun, danceable and cheesy-as-hell tune which, thematic darkness aside, was the most unabashed fun the show had ever done.
