10 Glee Covers As Good As The Originals

3. 'I Look To You' - Whitney Houston, 'Grilled Cheesus'

What's clear to many Glee and non-Glee fans is that Amber Riley's voice is pretty awesome - she's up there in the Lea Michele stakes of adapting her voice to suit any song and carrying it off well - particularly evident with her cover of the late, great Whitney Houston's 'I Look To You'. Accompanying the episode in which Mercedes' BFF Kurt's dad has a heart attack, the club rally around for emotional and spiritual support, leading to Mercedes' rendition of 'I Look To You' - it's a simplistic, driven and emotional take on the song, very similar to Houston's version. The same can be said for her season three cover of 'I Will Always Love You', but the majesty of Houston's version just pushes Riley's tribute out. Their voices are obviously different here - Houston's is more pop, Riley's more R&B orientated - but the song is a sparkling gem of a tune and has significant depth behind each version (Houston seeking God after her recent struggles and Riley's character offering hope to her atheist friend) that easily means the Glee one equals its original.
