10 Gore Anime That Will Give You Nightmares

There's often nothing more grotesque than body horror. The likes of Junji Ito, David Cronenberg and Jeremy Gillespie have made a lifetime of work in this subgenre, and most of their projects have been terrifying. Anime has strayed into the idea often, but one of the most disgusting, shocking and nightmare inducing is in this incredibly entertaining title.

This series walks a similar path to Tokyo Ghoul, as it shows the life of Shinichi Izumi, a young man who is infected by an alien entity that consumes humans known as a Parasyte. From there, he has to live as a human/monster hybrid, with his new parasitic roommate, Migi, forming a symbiotic relationship with him, as he provides life for the creature, and Migi helps Izumi defend himself.

Aside from the disgusting effects that the parasitic aliens have on their hosts, there's a plethora of bloodshed. The infection gives the protagonist some dramatic powers, leading to him using his body as a weapon to dangerous effect. You witness as he kills multiple infected humans, and it's always achieved with some grotesque and haunting imagery.
