6. The Thick Of It

Before Peter Capaldi became Doctor Who, he was the foul-mouthed spin doctor Malcolm Tucker, cursing his way through his job in governmental PR management. His main nemeses were not the Daleks or Cybermen, but bumbling politicians, whose gaffes he sought to neuter with the help of smear campaigns and good old-fashioned threats of violence.

It's a comedy renowned for its political satire; Tucker is a loose amalgamation of figures like Alistair Campbell and Harvey Weinstein, and it's no coincidence that the fourth season sees the formation of a coalition government.

It also led to the film In the Loop, the US series Veep, and the 2012 word of the year, omnishambles, referring to a situation of chaotic mismanagement. It's a word which hasn't actually been used since, but as now is the perfect time for a rewatch, perhaps we'll reincorporate it into the mainstream lexicon and hear it used as frequently as its successor, selfie.

I'm perfectly sane, or so the voices tell me. British, sarcastic, president of the European Slinky Association, have a tendency to lie when listing things about myself. 100% guilty of being a massive geek obsessed with Doctor Who, Harry Potter and video games. If you can't find me on the internet, I'm probably locked in a room playing Spyro the Dragon on my old PlayStation, or blowing everything to smithereens with a concrete donkey on Worms: Armageddon.
