10 Great Star Trek Performances That Made You Love Bad People

1. Gul Dukat - Marc Alaimo

Star Trek Q
CBS

This. Dude. Was. EVIL.

And yet, few can say that they didn't love him regardless. Gul Dukat enjoyed some of the most screen time of any villain in the franchise. His sparring with Sisko over the show's first five seasons thoroughly established that he could both not be trusted and yet could occasionally be counted on.

He absolutely believed in the mission of the occupation of Bajor. He truly believed that he was a kind and benevolent dictator. He believed that he should have been worshiped for his efforts and instead faced numerous insurrections. His devilish charm and slimey attempts to control every situation belie a deep, calculating man - all thanks to the stunning portrayal by Marc Alaimo.

Alaimo served as both the first Cardassian on screen (Gul Macet) and the primary foe for Deep Space Nine. His Gul Dukat seemed to truly care. Yet, when the situation called for great acts of evil, he didn't hesitate. Alaimo's slow, slow delivery of his lines meant everyone had to stop and listen when he was around. He utterly controlled the room.

Dukat remains the most developed villain in the franchise, offering a unique insight into the darkness that drives him. His eventual turn to the dark side of religion made perfect sense for him as a character, as who better to seek the help of the Devil than the man closest to him in spirit?

Out of all of the villains and all of the guest stars, Marc Alaimo's Gul Dukat is the cream of the crop. Always evil, often charming.

Deadly.

And we love him.
