10 Great Star Trek Performances That Made You Love Bad People

5. Weyoun/Brunt - Jeffrey Combs

Star Trek Q
CBS

It's hard to overstate exactly how wonderful an actor Jeffrey Combs is. He has appeared in eight different roles across the Star Trek franchise, and while his turn as the Andorian Commander Shran is excellent and a highlight of Enterprise, his dual roles of Weyoun and Brunt in Deep Space Nine rank as his best.

Brunt is the villain that sets your teeth on edge, sucking up to anyone higher on the ladder than he is. He is a constant foil to Quark, besting him as much as possible and is responsible for some of the Ferengi barkeeps worst days. He would recur throughout the series, occasionally a villain and occasionally a reluctant hero, doing whatever he can to get ahead.

With slightly lighter make up, Weyoun is perhaps the role that Combs would be more easily recognisable as. The pasty skin and the slow speeches about friendship make him so truly hateful that every scene to feature him is a joy. There is no moment where he is not trying to con someone or weasel his way to the top of the food chain. Both a sycophant and warlord, Weyoun's final demise was a grim if enjoyable moment.

Jeffrey Combs imbues such personality in both of these characters that they both rank among Deep Space Nine's best guest characters. Not a bad job at all when you remember that both were played by the same man and, in The Dogs of War, in the same episode!
