10 Great Star Trek Performances That Made You Love Bad People

3. Empress Phillipa Georgiou - Michelle Yeoh

When Michelle Yeoh was featured heavily in the pre-series promotional material for Star Trek Discovery, fans naturally thought that the show had decided on its starring captain. Then, something strange came about in the show's opening episode. Georgiou was captain of the Shenzhou, not Discovery. Maybe she gets a transfer aaaand she's dead.

This seemed a shame, as Michelle Yeoh is a wonderful actress and and in her short time, we already rooted for her. So, when the Discovery finds itself in the mirror universe, it was a very pleasant surprise to find Empress Georgiou projecting herself on the bridge of the ship.

Yeoh clearly has an absolute blast in playing the role, chewing every piece of scenery not guarded by the stage crew. She sweeps through maniacally, issuing orders and barking out how she wants things done. When she returns to the prime universe and establishes herself as part of Section 31, she is no less enjoyable as the one character in the room who will say what no one else is thinking.

With her character now shooting forward into the future along with Burnham, it remains to be seen how she react to her new environment. The upcoming Section 31 spin-off is set to feature Yeoh as well. This is great news for all of those who enjoy this dastardly villain. She may not be Empress anymore but it is doubtful that she'll stop trying to come out on top.
