10 Great TV Shows Starring The Cast Of Friends
4. Cougar Town
Courtney Cox’s second attempt at a new sitcom was far more successful than her first. Created by Scrubs/Ted Lasso’s Bill Lawrence, its concept was an easy sell to networks - Monica from Friends plays a sexy mom looking for a good time - but over its tenure it grew into one of the most enjoyable and often funniest hang out shows on TV.
Cox anchors things as recent divorcee Jules, a smart role that allows her to play an entirely more chaotic and relatable character than her most famous part. The show’s real strength is its ensemble, with Christa Miller and Busy Philipps in supporting roles and a great selection of guest stars including Sarah Chalke and Sheryl Crow.
After a few teething issues, Cougar Town turned into true comfort food TV, a natural descendent of Cox’s previous show. Though racier than Friends, it was just as delightful to spend time with this cast of characters. The group had tremendous, relaxed chemistry and swiftly adopted rhythms that felt lived in and organic.
Never a huge ratings hit, Cougar Town was bumped around the schedules (even changing networks) but settled into its natural role as a beloved cult proposition.
