10 Greatest Animated TV Shows Of The 2000s

2. Futurama

It's really difficult to find someone who doesn't like Futurama. If the timeless, sharp hilarity doesn't reel you in, then the set of diverse, lovable characters certainly will. And if that's still not enough, the fascinating insight to what a universe in the year 3000 would look like will surely get you invested. There's just so much the sci-fi sitcom has to offer.

Futurama focuses on Philip J. Fry - a pizza delivery boy - who has his life literally transformed when he is frozen one-thousand years into the future on the cusp of the year 3000. He learns to adapt in this new society as well as live out the dreams he could never do in the 20th century (including going to the moon and having a robot for a best friend). The show's writers put forward a brilliant juxtaposition of making fun of current civilisation whilst still satirizing some of the nonsensical ways of a future utopia.

And Futurama isn't just great for the comedy. Because of the well written characters, several episodes explore the tragic backstories of the ensemble - from Leela's motivation to discover her origins, to Fry's battle to overcome his loneliness and isolation of being in an entirely new world.

Emotional, comical and action-packed, Futurama is nothing short of a masterpiece.
