Over 20 years worth of laughter and South Park is still going strong. You could consider it one of the greats for any of the decades it's been around for, from the late 1990s when it was full of devilishly brash humour to most recently how it has always kept up with current events.

There may have been a few lacklustre episodes here and there but as a whole, the series remains fresh, unpredictable, thought-provoking and always entertaining. Trey Parker and Matt Stone are the powerhouses behind the series and since they’ve been with it from start to finish, South Park is able to stay consistent as well as varied and daring. However, the 2000s will always be the the show at its peak.

It’s a common misconception that South Park is just toilet humour and crappy visuals. But the series is much more intelligent and insightful than that, whilst still maintaining a level of enjoyable silliness. The producers do not hold back on making fun of anything, no matter what the topic.

Furthermore, most animated shows typically take about six to twelve months to produce but South Park has the advantage of being able to create episodes in a mere six days and therefore provide more timely satire and social commentary. From the “Osama Bin Laden Has Farty Pants” episode which addressed the matter of 9/11 just a few weeks after the events, to the recent “Pandemic Special”, South Park started off ahead of its time and has always remained relevant.
