1. Fresh Meat (Channel 4, 2011 - present)
OK, so this is a sort of comedy-drama, but it's also too good not to be included, and there are moments of genuine emotion shrouded in all the light heartedness. What makes Fresh Meat stand out is that it is the only show that comes close to a realistic portrayal of student life. Each character presents a combination of both student caricature (of whom we all know someone like...) and enough three-dimensional qualities to be engaging. Stand-out among these characters is posh buffoon JP, played by Jack Whitehall. He has a hilarious strand of misplaced self-righteousness and a sense of entitlement that would give Withnail a run for his money. Yet over the two series we see him gradually change into something more amicable, presumably via the influence of his slightly more grounded housemates.
