Here we are, at the greatest cold open of them all. A Good Man Goes To War is a mid series finale that feels more like a full finale (and honestly with the way that Series 6 ended, this would have been much better). This opening scene follows hot on the heels of the shocking conclusion to The Almost People, in which Amy is revealed to be a flesh duplicate, and finds Eleven and Rory turning the galaxy upside-down in search of Amy, who has just given birth to her baby daughter whilst held captive by The Silence.

Amy speaks to baby Melody whilst we're shown scenes of a stowaway with a sonic screwdriver aboard a Cyberman command ship. Amy tells her daughter that it will all be okay, because someone is coming to save her, someone who is the last of his kind and has lived for hundreds of years - her father.

Now, there is a brief moment here where we think Moffat has done something very naughty before we breathe a collective sigh of relief as its revealed she's talking about Rory, not the Doctor.

Rory then swaggers into Cyber high command with the macho energy of a bull injected with five litres of testosterone, demanding to know where his wife is and passing on a message from The Doctor.

The Cybermen ask what the Doctor's message is, and Rory positions himself in front of a window (though how he crossed the room whilst lugging around those gigantic balls remains a mystery). He stares blankly as an entire Cyber fleet is decimated behind him before delivering an ice cold "Would you like me to repeat the question", which is essentially galactic speak for "Sorry, did I f***ing stutter?"

Rory is a certified badass, and this is his greatest moment in the entire show, as after a season and a half of living in the Doctor's shadow, he becomes a bona-fide hero. His journey from awkward clingy geek to macho beefcake culminates right here, and it is beyond satisfying to watch.
