6. Orcini
Colin Baker's era of Doctor Who was a cold and callous place full of nihilism and cynicism, reflecting the disenchantment that had script editor Eric Saward was experiencing with the show. It was easy to agree with Tegan's parting words that it had stopped being fun. Life was cheap and the universe was full of evil, amoral aliens such as Sil and Davros. Because of this, the rare examples of nobility stand out which is why the death of master assassin Orcini (played by veteran actor William Gaunt) in Revelation of the Daleks is particularly notable. Orcini is a mercenary, even if he does claim to be of a noble order of assassins yet still lives by that code. Sent to kill the Great Healer (also known as Davros), he and the loyal Bostock recall Don Quixote. Easily outdoing the Doctor, Orcini is however captured and his friend killed. He has the last laugh, though, after sacrificing himself to destroy Davros' hideous new Daleks, made from the dead of the funeral home of Tranquil Repose.
