10 Greatest Episodes Of The Muppet Show

1. Season 5, Episode 9 (Debbie Harry) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0Hd3uWKFKY Jim Henson's son, Brian, was a teenager during the run of the Muppet Show. In an introduction to the VHS release of this episode, Brian Henson stated that at the time, he was a big fan of Blondie's Debbie Harry, and when his father invited Debbie to dinner with the family, Brian was too awestruck to speak to her. The youngsters featured in this episode, however, aren't quite as timid. Kermit's nephew, Robin, picks Harry's appearance on the show as the day to bring his Frog Scout troop to the theatre, but Kermit is none too pleased with their juvenile behavior. While they spend part of the time on typical scout duties (such as performing a precision drill and giving Link Hogthrob first aid after a Pigs in Space sketch gone wrong), Kermit worries that they're bothering the guest star when they seek help with their punk rock merit badge (even the troop's elderly leader, Mrs. Appleby, joins in, dubbing herself the "Safety Pin Queen"). Luckily, she is happy to oblige, and eventually becomes an honorary Frog Scout. This is one of the few episodes to acknowledge the existence of The Muppet Movie (1979); when Debbie contemplates what song about rainbows she can sing, Kermit passive-aggressively convinces her to perform "The Rainbow Connection" with him. The song itsself is one of the most lasting products of the Muppets franchise, and this endearing version is one of the best.
