10 Greatest Ever TV Alternate Universes

1. Buffy The Vampire Slayer - "The Wish"

The Wish

In season 3 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Cordelia makes a wish that Buffy had never moved to Sunnydale, believing that she was the root of all her problems. Big mistake, Cordy. She is immediately whisked away to an alternate Sunnydale, where the Master is still alive (in a manner of speaking) and the vampires have the run of the town. The humans live in fear, getting home well before dark and wearing drab, dark colors (unlike Cordelia, who is wearing a bright "come bite me" outfit). But the most interesting part of this brave new world has to be what's become of our main trio. Without Buffy to protect them, Willow and Xander were turned into vampires. But not just your garden variety vamps. Particularly sadistic and vicious ones, especially Willow, who takes pleasure in torturing a captured and weakened Angel (whereas Xander prefers just to watch, which is a little better, but not much). And what of Buffy? Well, she's actually a lot like Faith. Without the support of her friends and family, she's a much more severe, militant character than the Buffy we know and love. "I don't play well with others," she growls at Giles. Sound like anyone we know?
