10 Greatest Horror TV Shows Since 2000

8. Bates Motel

Scream Brooke Carrie
A&E

Run: 4 seasons, 2013 - present

Starring: Vera Farmiga, Freddie Highmore, Nestor Carbonell

Network: A&E

Not be confused with the maligned 1987 film of the same name, this time "mother" is coming out of the cellar to be the focus of A&E's Bates Motel. Vera Farmiga plays the over-protective Norma Bates, iconised in Alfred Hitchcock's 1960's slasher Psycho. Following the formative years of lil' psycho Norman, Bates Motel explores the bond that tied mother and son.

Horror and prequels are two words that struggle to mesh together, but thanks to a solid script and Farmiga's mesmerizing performance, the show wins awards left, right, and centre. Although the network's longest-running scripted drama, LOST's Carlton Cuse (serving as an executive producer) confirmed that the show's fifth season in 2017 would sadly be the last.
