10 Greatest MTV Unplugged Episodes

9. KISS

Whenever a band has some big announcement up their sleeve, it's best to play it up just a little bit. No matter what kind of bombshell you want to break to your audience, it's basic business marketing to try and reach the widest crowd that you can possibly imagine. So when almighty shock rockers KISS announced their reformation, they chose to do it...in one of the most downtempo places imaginable.

Aside from the inherent wrongness of a band like KISS doing an Unplugged set, the songs from the old days like Nothin to Lose and Comin Home hold up surprisingly well with acoustic instruments, proving there's a lot of song power in between all of that makeup. For all of the great music, the real highlight of the night came when the newest iteration of KISS invited original members Peter Criss and Ace Frehley onstage to jam, AND THE CROWD LOST THEIR MINDS.

This is what eventually led to KISS reuniting the original lineup properly for a headlining tour around the world, crisscrossing the US and beyond just like they had done in their '70s prime. Even though the fallout from the Hottest Band in the World is the stuff of rock legend today, sometimes it takes all the stars to align before the Fearsome Foursome was brought back together as one big happy family.
