10 Greatest MTV Unplugged Episodes
8. Led Zeppelin
After John Bonham passed away in the early '80s, the idea of Led Zeppelin even attempting to continue seemed silly. Though Bonham was never an integral part of the writing stages, the massive thunder he brought from behind the kit was never going to be filled any time soon. There was another side to Zeppelin though, and we got a unique taste of it once the '90s rolled around.
That's to say, half of Led Zeppelin came together to make it work. Later released as a live album called Unledded, most of this evening's performances revolve around Jimmy Page and Robert Plant coming together to play some of their favorite classics in a new light. Considering Plant had already been making waves as a solo star around this time, he feels a lot more in his element in this environment, bringing an almost new age spin to classics like Friends and Kashmir.
Given that Jimmy Page had remained pretty dormant ever since Zeppelin's split, it was a welcome sight to see him reuniting with an old friend to remind the rock world that he could still hold his own through the years. While a true Led Zeppelin reunion would be incomplete without John Paul Jones in the ranks, this is a unique take on rock's classic tunes that we probably won't hear for a long time.
