10 Greatest Netflix Original TV Shows

2. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Who's In It? Ellie Kemper, Jane Krakowski, Tituss Burgess and Carol Kane What's It About? A woman is rescued from a doomsday cult and starts life over again in New York City. Why Should I Watch? Try and watch just a single episode of Tina Fey's bubbling, bouncy comedy Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. It is borderline impossible. Also extremely difficult is to remove the hilariously high-pitched theme tune from your psyche too..."They alive, dammit! It's a miracle!". Kemper gives the performance of a lifetime as the eponymous Kimmy; a cheery and desperately alienated young woman who attempts to adjust to modern life after being freed from a doomsday cult which had her buried underground for over a decade. Considering the runaway success of Fey's sublime 30 Rock, it is incredible how NBC turned down this project, but more fool them and more gain Netflix as it is easily the freshest, funniest show of 2015. Earning six Emmy nominations including Outstanding Comedy Series, this quick-fire assault will have you gasping for air after the title scene alone. The synergy between Kemper and Burgess's struggling actor/singer is the dialect hallmark here; such wondrous interplay keeps scenes frantic and urgent, but the genius addition of flashbacks to Kimmy's time in the bunker and the relationships she shared with her fellow women keep the show purposeful and surprisingly profound. Seeing the vast contrasts between her two lives makes for brilliant visual and situational comedy, particularly when dealing with Krakowsi's vein and dim-witted employer and her bratty teenage daughter. Endlessly rewatchable, charming and clever, a second season is rightfully on the way, and we cannot wait.
