10 Greatest Netflix Original TV Shows

3. Orange Is The New Black

Who's In It? Taylor Schilling, Laura Prepon, Taryn Manning, Jason Biggs, Michael Harney and Kate Mulgrew What's It About? The story of Piper Chapman, a woman in her thirties who is sentenced to fifteen months in prison after being convicted of a decade-old crime of transporting money to her drug-dealing girlfriend. Why Should I Watch? We are three seasons into the endlessly inventive and immersive Orange Is The New Black, and you just know it hasn't fully reached its prime yet. Nominated for Emmy Awards in both comedic and dramatic categories, Netflix's prison epic is one of the best things on TV, let alone their service. Ranking highly in the upper echelon of character development, audiences are invited to the inner lives of dozens of inmates, guards and other prison personnel. With dense overarching plotlines and rich emotional developments, every episode of the show remains as vibrant and lively as the predecessor. With so much going on thematically and creatively, OITNB could easily become bogged down, but thus far it is striding elegantly through adversity. Spending time with wild characters like Black Cindy, Crazy Eyes and Poussey, as well as deeply troubled characters like Daya, Red, and C.O. Healy is just as rewarding as the on-going developments of Schilling's Piper Chapman, who gets sentenced to 15 months in Litchfield Penitentiary after she was named in a drug case by her ex-girlfriend Alex (Prepon) for a crime that took place years earlier. Diverse and detailed across the spectrum, there simply isn't another show like this on-air right now. it finds a delightful sweet-spot between conflicting genres and is able to straddle such challenges with conviction. A largely female ensemble cast makes up the greatest placement of performers across Netflix's service also.
