They say love does strange things to you; indeed in Sucre's case, it made him rob a liquor store in order to buy an engagement ring for the love of his life, Maricruz. Unfortunately, Sucre's cousin, Hector, was also in love with Maricruz and deviously informed Sucre's crime to the police that resulted in his incarceration at Fox River. Much like C-Note's tireless determination to be reunited with his wife and daughter, Sucre's main focus is to simply find Maricruz and live a normal, happy life with her.

After initially wanting nothing to do with his cellmate Michael's audacious escape plans, Sucre eventually plays an integral part. As a result, his relationship with "Papi" grows throughout the series to such an extent that it can be argued they have a closer brotherly bond than Michael and Lincoln do. Sucre is a lovable rogue who is really one of the good guys.

One of Sucre's funniest moments came when he was seemingly propositioned by an older gentleman for a seedy sexual encounter. Sucre, nobly, agrees to take one for the team. Fortunately, for him, it turns out the man wants to watch him have sex with his stunning wife.
