A wise man once commented that Tom Hanks was one of those guys who came off as totally average -- until he opened his mouth and unleashed his charm upon the world. Seriously, he's one of the most likeable actors out there, and it's difficult to overestimate how much audience good will can color a Saturday Night Live host's reception. His good-natured sense of humor was a slam dunk on the show, especially since everyone was predisposed to find him funny anyway. Hanks was one of those actors who came on Saturday Night Live frequently, so much so that he had his own recurring sketches - something that was a little unusual for an A-list celebrity. Even now he takes time out of his schedule to do little cameos on the show, like when he was the lustful robot in the frankly disturbing Merryville amusement park sketch. No one needs the nightmares of having a creepy animatronic Tom Hanks wrapping his arm around your shoulder while heading into the dark part of the Tunnel of Love ride.
