10 Greatest Star Trek Courtroom Episodes

6. The Menagerie

Spock Menagerie

This courtroom drama serves as the only two-part episode that The Original Series ever offered, while also serving as a cheeky effort to screen the original pilot episode The Cage at the same time. While it has been described as Star Trek's answer to Gogglebox, it actually helps to give Spock some of the deepest, then, development he had received.

The theft of the Enterprise, back before it was a standard Tuesday event, was shocking - not least as to the fact of who was responsible. The trial then, with the stakes as high as they were - any visit to the Talos star group carried the death penalty - was both an opportunity to see Kirk try to defend his insubordinate first officer, and allowed the audience to meet Captain Christopher Pike for the first time - technically.

As The Cage hadn't been screened at that point, Sean Kenney was the first actor that many in the audience got to see play the iconic role. With those beeps and light-up bulbs, an endearing image was burnt into SciFi history. How could this man have made such an impact on Spock, of all people, to engender mutiny?
