10 Greatest TV Anti-Heroes

5. "Santana Lopez" Glee

If you are one of the many people who stopped watching Glee after its first season, you really are missing out for a whole host of different reasons, but most of those reasons are because of this character, played brilliantly by Naya Rivera.

It is testament to the actress that in Season 1 (and much of Season 2) Santana rarely had any lines, any character development, and didn't really get that many solos. But the characters popularity, despite the early lack of development, lead to Santana quickly being the most interesting character in the whole show, and a reason to watch if you gave up early.

Santana goes through a terrific arc, and is the bitchy cheerleader we love to hate, but love even more to love. Starting off as a character who pretty much said whatever was on her mind to whoever she wanted to say it to, and pointed out whenever the show got too cheesy for its own good, the character slowly developed into a very complex, very sympathetic character to root for. Spending much of the last half of season 2 and the beginning of season 3 struggling with her sexuality, she is now one part of the most popular on-screen lesbian couple since Willow and Tara, known affectionately as Brittana.

Some would argue this character is a bully, and we shouldn't like her nearly as much as we do... but the show lets us into the heart of this girl, and gives us enough of a reason to feel a great deal of sympathy for her, whether it's singing Fleetwood Mac's Landslide to her girlfriend Brittany, or coming out to her disapproving grandmother. Truly a brilliantly likable anti-hero... I can't wait to see where her character goes in Season 4 (she makes her first real appearance in Season 4 in next weeks apparently best episode ever "The Break Up").

If you still don't believe me, watch her rendition of Adele's "Someone Like You/ Rumour Has It" mash-up and tell me you don't feel sorry for Santana.
