10 Greatest Villain Introductions In TV History
5. The Borg - Star Trek: The Next Generation
There is no Star Trek villain more iconic than The Borg, who were formally introduced in The Next Generation's season two episode "Q Who."
TNG's first two seasons certainly had their ups and downs, but this scene is surely imprinted on the mind of any Star Trek fan.
The episode sees Q (John de Lancie) send the Enterprise thousands of light years across the galaxy, where they discover a planet that's been stripped of all mechanical elements.
Soon enough, they're probed by a ship on course to intercept, and when Picard (Patrick Stewart) orders it to be shown on screen, we see the Borg cube for the very first time.
As Data (Brent Spiner) reveals the vessel has no conventional ship layout nor any signs of life, Picard attempts to hail it to no avail, before Guinan (Whoopi Goldberg) reveals that her people encountered the Borg a century prior and it almost rendered them extinct.
At that moment, one of the Borg then transports onto the engineering bay in front of Geordi (LeVar Burton), confirming the Borg to be by far Star Trek's most insidious and intimidating villains.
