10 Groundbreaking TV Shows That Were Cancelled Too Soon

1. Freaks And Geeks

Was there ever any shadow of a doubt? What can I say that hasn't already been said? Freaks and Geeks is Judd Apatow's crowning achievement, and his first project that revealed a wealth of skill with comedy. While he has dwindled in recent years, if he were remembered for nothing else, it would be Freaks and Geeks. Chronicling a year in the life of Lindsay Weir, it tackled her struggle with identity, purpose and society. As great a coming-of-age tale as there ever was, it followed her upon her joining of the school burnouts, or "freaks". On the flip side, her brother, played by John Francis Daly, was the geek who was struggling to get through high school with a minimum of notice and profile. The show's popularity, despite its run of only 18 episodes, can be seen through its realism. In only 18 episodes, the characters evolve, are challenged, and move away from their assigned social roles. Its realistic depiction of high school, namely that it sucks, is unarguably its greatest strength, one that was bolstered by a cast and characters who recognised this fact and played to it. Easily one of the best shows I've ever seen, and one of the most sympathetic and funny insights into teenage life. Well, that's it. I hope you enjoyed my list. If you feel I left anything out, let me know in the comments section.
