10 Highly Questionable Actions Committed By Doctor Who

8. The Third Doctor's Uneasy Alliance With UNIT

Doctor Whos The working arrangement of the exiled Doctor providing assistance to a military group like UNIT (United Nations Intelligence Taskforce) was an uneasy alliance from the start, so it's more than somewhat surprising that the 3rd Doctor continues to work with them after the events of "The Silurians," where Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart commits genocide against the entire Silurian race, mercilessly bombing them into oblivion, shown in the above picture. The disgust Pertwee shows in this final scene as he learns that an previously undiscovered intelligent alien race with whom he has been conducting peace negotiations has been slaughtered is palpable. But this is conveniently forgotten by the time of the next UNIT adventure, "Inferno" (which features an alternate reality version of the Brigadier who is even more of a dick.) Perhaps the Doctor is merely masking his contempt for the Brigadier (which changes to admiration as the series progresses) in order to have continued access to the scientific resources at UNIT's disposal, but it's worth considering that when faced with a very similar choice to commit genocide in "Genesis Of The Daleks", the Doctor flatly refuses to do so.

Hi there, What Culture-ers! I'm William Graff, a 40-year old freelance writer from the wilds of Capitol Hill in beautiful Denver, Colorado. I enjoy many things such as beer, Doctor Who, The Simpsons, record collecting, stand-up comedy, long aimless walks, and of course the Broncos, which is required by law if you live here. I appreciate all feedback for my writing, but I prefer cash and/or deleted Smiths singles in lieu of praise. Rock on!
