9. Metalhead - Literal Metal Head
The shortest Black Mirror episode, but perhaps one of the most terrifying, follows Bella after a botched mission to find an item to ease the passing of a child named Jack. Things go south when a metallic "dog" kills her two companions and relentlessly tracks Bella through the English countryside.
Metalhead is a nail-biting cat-and-mouse chase as Bella narrowly avoids having her brains blown out by her hell-bent assailant. Fortunately, her quick-thinking and reactions lead her to a compound where she puts up a last stand against the robot, using white paint, a car's stereo, and two blasts of the shotgun to end the creature for good.
It's a great misfortune, then, when the dog blasts Bella with a shower of tiny trackers before shutting down. Looking at her metal-peppered face in a mirror, with trackers dangerously nestled in her throat, she says one last goodbye into her silent radio and proceeds to put a knife to her throat. The camera pans out to show a pack of dogs closing in on her location.
It's up to the viewer to decide whether she attempted to remove the trackers or end her own life. Whatever the case, it's a brutal end to an incredibly resourceful character and stings all the more when she beat her attacker fair and square. And what was the item that got her into this mess? A teddy bear for a sick boy. Someone pass me the tissues.
