10 Horror Anime To Keep You Up At Night
6. Parasyte -The Maxim-
Most horror stories rely on the supernatural or more grounded ideas like that of a serial killer on the loose, so it’s nice to see the occasional sci-fi based tales of terror. Parasite -the maxim- is more action oriented than most anime on this list, but its creepy factor comes from the use of body horror.
From a mutating talking hand to heads splitting open to reveal a gross combination of eyes, teeth and blades, Parasyte is an anime that is definitely not for those with a sensible stomach.
The story starts simple enough: the Earth is being invaded by a race of alien parasites that love nothing more than to nest in the heads of humans and twist their bodies however they see fit.
Luckily for Shinichi Izumi, his headphones block the way to his brain for one such parasite, who decides instead to take over his right hand. With his new ‘buddy’ by his side, Shinichi is forced to confront a world where nothing is as it seems. Parasite may be a gorefest, but it’s also an anime that asks what it means to be human.
