Stephen King is a master storyteller. While he does have certain tropes and pitfalls that he delves into that can sometimes hold his stories back, he very rarely creates something that isn't an incredibly good read. His work on TV has mostly consisted either of poor adaptations of his career or decent original creations. Storm of the Century is one of the latter.

This three-episode mini-series shows a blizzard hit an isolated town. But this doesn't just bring lousy weather. It also delivers with it a mysterious stranger who seems intent on torturing the townsfolk for his own malicious enjoyment.

Those familiar with the work of King can quickly draw comparisons between this villain and the hugely influential Randall Flagg from The Dark Tower and Stand titles. The concept of an evil dark wizard sounds goofy, but in King's hands always comes across as frightening as the scenario should be.

Taking this short series and putting it into a compact run time, dealing with the same concept would make for an incredibly dark and twisted fantasy horror, akin to the work of the writer.
