Known initially as Regit in its original Danish title, this series was a monstrous creation that was disgusting and disturbing, which is precisely what made it so amazing. The show was created by the now-infamous Lars Von Trier, the filmmaker known for titles that are both horrendous and artistically profound.

This eight-episode series tells the tale of a group of doctors at an ultramodern hospital in Denmark that realise their building might be haunted after a series of shocking and gruesome occurrences. The tension continues to build as things spiral out of control.

The series was so successful that Stephen King even adapted it into his own version named Kingdom Hospital. This was also great, but nothing compared to the original.

The show is full of imagery that will stick with you, and has an utterly compelling narrative that expands far out from the simple concept.

Adapting it to feature-film length would be quite a challenge, but if the feeling and anxiety of the piece were able to be condensed down into this format, then it would produce a movie that could have a profound effect on the genre.
