10 Horror TV Shows Where The Hero Became The Villain

9. Black Mirror - David Ross

While primarily a psychological thriller, Black Mirror has never been afraid to blur the lines between its parent genre and that of horror, featuring several episodes that are legitimately far more terrifying than most fright flicks. As such, in honor of the recent release of the show's sixth season, it only seems appropriate to go with Beyond The Sea's David Ross.

Upon first appearances, Ross is a paragon of goodness and virtue. Beyond The Sea depicts an alternate reality, following two astronauts on a perilous mission in outer space - a mission that could potentially last years. Fortunately, technology in this reality has evolved to the point where Ross and his partner Cliff Stanfield are able to transfer their consciousness home to earth, housed in mechanical, life-like doppelgängers.

While he begins the episode as a doting father and husband with a passion for art and classical music, David is anything but by the time the harrowing ending rolls around. The astronaut's family is murdered before his doppelgänger's eyes by a cult, sending David into a manic depressive spiral. His replica is also destroyed in the attack, prompting Aaron Paul's Cliff Stanfield to allow Ross to use his own in an attempt to alleviate his grief and isolation - what could possibly go wrong?

Quite literally everything, as the mentally unravelled David proceeds to swiftly fall in love with Cliff's wife, before eventually slaughtering his family to teach him a lesson about loss. Hero to absolute zero.
