9. Forgetting His Girlfriend's Name
As Ted gleefully details over the course of HIMYM’s nine year run, he goes through a lot of women, but there can be few he treats quite so disrespectfully as Carol, introduced in season three’s “How I Met Everyone Else”. If the name doesn’t ring a bell, that’s because Future Ted has deemed her so unimportant that he has forgotten it altogether.
Forgetting a name may not seem like too grave a crime (and admittedly Ted has done far worse before and after), but it’s worth considering that he was in a substantial enough relationship with Carol (referred to dismissively as “Blah Blah” for the entirety of the episode) that he brought her to meet his friends.
He clearly finds the whole state of affairs amusing, recalling with glee how this woman meant so little to him that he couldn’t find space in his brain for her two syllable, five letter name. The episode goes out of its way to paint her as difficult, placing her on the wrong side of Barney’s “hot/crazy scale”, one of the show’s most charmless inventions.
