8. Not Learning From His Own Mistakes
One of HIMYM’s most heartbreaking moments comes in season three, when Ted is jilted at the altar by Stella. The end of this relationship majorly takes the wind out of Ted’s sails, sending him into a downward spiral personally and professionally for much of the next few seasons.
So in season seven, when his old squeeze Victoria considers doing the same to her own fiance in order to give Ted another shot, our hero wants no part in it, refusing to embark on a relationship with such a traumatic event as its starting point.
Well - he feels like that for about two minutes, then decides to roll with it, as he likes her so much. It’s Victoria’s choice, of course, but this event speaks to Ted’s utter lack of principles. He knows full well what he’s becoming a part of, but on the basis of a relationship from six years ago, he decides he doesn’t care.
It would be fair enough were this to be the relationship that sticks, but of course, a few episodes later, it goes up in smoke (as usual due to Ted’s lingering feelings for Robin).
