10 Huge Actors You Forgot Were In Scrubs

4. Dick Van Dyke

Colin Farrell Scrubs
NBC

An actor who surely needs no introduction, Dick Van Dyke has had a seven decade career in Hollywood, starring in such beloved classics as Mary Poppins (1964) and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968), and numerous classic TV shows, including The Dick Van Dyke Show and its sequel series.

He turned up on Scrubs during its second season as Dr Doug Townshend, a close friend of Bob Kelso who was nonetheless the Chief of Medicine's polar opposite - fun, relaxed and endearing. In the episode "My Brother, My Keeper", Doug had a short stay at Sacred Heart, where Kelso came to realise his old friend was not educated in modern medicine and still using old forms of treating his patients.

Van Dyke was a welcome addition to the show, playing Doug with his signature blend of approachability and comedic stylings. In the episode's final moments, he also pulls out his dramatic skills, too, and the results are great to see.
