Another show with legitimate claims of being on the Mt. Rushmore of anime, Fullmetal Alchemist Brother was filled with goosebumps moments from start to finish. Few however, could compare to the sheer chills when Ed reunited with Alphonse’s body for the first time since their ill-fated resurrection attempt.

After countless battles that got them wrapped up in major government conspiracies, Ed and Al find themselves facing the homunculi. During a battle with Gluttony, Ed and Ling get trapped inside monster. In order to escape, Ed is eventually forced to up the Gate of Truth. The escape plan works, but not before taking Ed back inside the gate where he is reunited with Alphonse’s body.

Seeing the desolate state of his brother’s material form, Ed desperately tries to bring him back, but is unsuccessful as the body in question did not belong to him. His struggle ends in vain as he is dragged beyond the threshold of the gate and away from Alphonse.

However, just when it seemed to be done and dusted, the gate is wrecked open and Edward, still being manhandled by the forces that be, waves a defiant finger at his brother’s body and makes that iconic promise of coming back for him someday. A promise he would eventually keep.
