10 Iconic TV Show Opening Credits You Will NEVER Skip

9. Spongebob Squarepants

First of all, there’s nothing wrong with watching Spongebob as a grown adult. Otherwise, what were the writers doing when they added in all those hidden innuendos and dirty jokes? The yellow sponge and his friends are meant to be viewed from audiences of all ages.

The theme song to Spongebob Squarepants is one of the most interactive out there. Resembling an old sea shanty, Patchy the Pirate first asks “are you ready, kids?” to which all of us, children or not, can’t help but respond with the next line - “aye aye, captain”. From then on, every single question asked elicits a response from its audience.

The intro ends of a simple chant of “Spongebob Squarepants! Spongebob Squarepants! Spongebob Squarepants!” and by this point, the majority of us are joining in with it. The lyrics are relentlessly repetitive which is what makes them so easy to remember.

The chances are, most of us binged Spongebob as a child and because of that, the song words were drilled through our brains, making them impossible to forget. And impossible not to sing along with too.
