When talking about great TV shows from the 90s it’s very hard to not mention the icon that was The X-Files. It revolutionized the TV landscape, breaking boundaries of what could be shown on TV and how it could be presented and while it had a slow start with only a cult following it became a pop culture phenomenon in later seasons.

The series follows FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, who investigate the titular X-Files which are unsolved cases involving paranormal phenomena. Mulder believes heavily in the paranormal aspects of the cases, while Scully is a bit more skeptical and assigned to work with Mulder to keep him on the rails.

Mulder’s sister was supposedly abducted by aliens when he was much younger and this drives him to “find the truth.” This became the driving force behind the series storyline but the show ventured into all things supernatural with a creature-of-the-week theme being one of its most common and strongest aspects.

The show has had two spin offs, various video games, comic books and a ton of merchandise, not to mention all the memes. Suspenseful, thrilling, scary, deep and dark, the X-Files is a series that has stood the test of time and has made millions say, “The truth is out there.”
