An emotionally troubled crime reporter returns to her hometown to investigate the murder of two young girls where she also faces her personal demons and her critical, overbearing mother. The atmosphere is almost as dark as its subject matter with a precise and unadulterated look into the human psyche and just how badly past traumas can manifest themselves.

The addition of flashbacks to her dark past add a surreal tension to the story and is complimented by some excellent performances. With a cast that includes Amy Adams, Patricia Clarkson and a trickle of Golden globe and Emmy silverware, would you expect anything less?

This series is full of mystery, family drama, thrills and a touch of Southern Gothic.
