10 Incredible Similarities Between Doctor Who And Sherlock
4. Fan Representation
There's been a lot of talk recently of Sherlock self-parodying. It's something that's considered extremely original by some, for a show to take its expectations and laugh at them on-screen almost like a fourth wall wink, but at the whole of Tumblr and Twitter combined. But NewWho did it way back in 'Love and Monsters', when the group LINDA were actually based on the real Whovians out there, who dedicate their lives to following the Doctor. More recently though, it's become clear quite how much fans are represented in Sherlock and Doctor Who. Anderson is one of us, it would seem, founding the Empty Hearse and imagining crazed theories: even imagining a kiss between Sherlock and Molly, or Sherlolly if you have Tumblr. He's really not that much different though from Osgood; a scientist from 'The Day of the Doctor' who's star-struck by him, cosplaying in a Tom Baker scarf and knowing that the Doctor would save her from any danger that lurks around the corner. Moffat, Gatiss et al seem to be catering to the fans in a huge way these days. Which may alienate casual viewers, but it's certainly rewarding to know that us die-hard obsessives are a big part of the shows we care about. It's like a footballer scoring, and celebrating in front of his fans. (Check out the alleged TARDIS that snuck into 'The Empty Hearse, by the way, as seen above in the picture!)
